NFL expert suggests Steelers will give Russell Wilson another weapon before deadline

Let's hope it happens this time.

For fans wondering about any potential quarterback controversy within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, at this point, that ship appears to have sailed.

This is Russell Wilson's job going forward, and the offense looks to be better off with him at the helm. For as much as some fans loved Justin Fields, he is now officially relegated to the backup role.

With Wilson under center for his first start of the season, the Steelers put up season highs in both points (37) and yards (409). It doesn't seem as though Fields has much of a shot to get that job back. But, this is all a positive if the Steelers are winning games and more efficient on offense.

Speaking of efficiency on offense, Wilson's infamous "moon ball" looks pretty good after just one game. He does throw a catchable ball, that's for sure. The odds are in his favor when tossing it up to one George Pickens; at least that's what their first game together taught us.

Other than Pickens, though, the Steelers do need another weapon. This offense is not going to survive in the postseason with Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin being the secondary wide receiver options. Thus, with the trade deadline coming up, it's about time the Steelers make a move.

Pittsburgh has been in on two big name wide receivers over the last couple of months. Both Davante Adams and Brandon Aiyuk were options the Steelers were trying to secure, but came up short. Now, with the November 5 trade deadline coming up, time is running out.

One NFL columnist believes the time is now, too. NFL Media's Kevin Patra included the Steelers in his recent piece under the "buyers" segment. And, Patra floated out an idea that continues to gain steam amongst the rumor mill.

Mike Williams could be the perfect trade target for the Steelers

"One reported potential move has Mike Williams going from the Jets to Pittsburgh. He would make an interesting combo with Pickens, and his presence would lead to even more Wilson moonballs," Patra wrote.

With Adams now in New York and Garrett Wilson the clear no. 2, the Jets have their tandem. Not to mention, Allen Lazard is one of Aaron Rodgers' buddies and has had a productive season, so he's not going anywhere. That leaves Williams the odd man out.

"Regardless, the Steelers look like a postseason club once again. To go deeper than the first round, they'll need another weapon opposite Pickens," Patra finished.

He's not wrong. The Steelers know it, too. It's been evidenced by their continued involvement in attempting to trade for a wide receiver. This is, indeed, a talented roster all-around. It's a roster that could potentially win the whole thing, but offensively, they need a bit more.

Could Williams soon be on his way to Pittsburgh? It might only be a matter of time.
