Typically, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most prominent teams featured in primetime throughout the NFL season. Despite a rough finish in primetime in 2024 and a massive question mark at quarterback, the Steelers are getting their fair share of opportunities under the lights.

With the NFL schedule officially released, we know the Steelers are scheduled to play in four primetime matchups with potential for more.

How many more they could be flexed into will be based on several factors, most notably whether or not Aaron Rodgers finally makes up his mind about playing for the Black and Gold in 2025.

Pittsburgh Steelers land four primetime games in 2025

Here’s how the Steelers' 2025 primetime schedule looks:

  • Week 7: at Cincinnati Bengals, Thursday Night Football
  • Week 8: vs. Green Bay Packers, Sunday Night Football
  • Week 10: at Los Angeles Chargers, Sunday Night Football
  • Week 15: vs. Miami Dolphins, Monday Night Football

Given some of the other shenanigans present within the Steelers' 2025 schedule, notably a Week 1 matchup against Aaron Rodgers’s former team, the New York Jets, it’s a bit surprising the NFL didn’t give the Steelers a couple more primetime games throughout the season.

After all, the NFL gave the Jets six primetime games in 2023, Rodgers's first of two seasons with the franchise.

Again, the number of total primetime games could change if the right conditions are met, but four is still a strong number for a team that hasn't had playoff success for as long as the Steelers have.

Notable matchups could draw national spotlight

Still, the schedule presents opportunities for the Steelers to be flexed into primetime late in the season, should the team find itself back in the playoff race. The Steelers play Buffalo in Week 13, at Baltimore in Week 14, at Detroit in Week 16, and host the Ravens in Week 18.

Any of these matchups against presumptive playoff contenders could feasibly be flexed to Sunday Night Football during the season.

In 2024, the Steelers played in five primetime games, including the Christmas matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. Pittsburgh went 1-4 in those games, with its lone win against the New York Giants in Week 8.

With any luck, they will fare much better under the lights in 2025.
