Pittsburgh Steelers fans are probably sick and tired of hearing about Aaron Rodgers at this point but we have to be realistic here. Once the Rodgers domino falls, that will allow a lot of other things to play out when it comes to the quarterback position this offseason.
While the Steelers have been insistent on signing Rodgers, so have the Giants. Meanwhile, Rodgers has reportedly wanted to join the Vikings more than any of his other options. He's also kicked around retirement. In other words, he's being Aaron Rodgers.
Well, the latest report from Josina Anderson sure makes it sound like Rodgers to Pittsburgh could be happening sooner rather than later.
"Worth Noting: One league source told me earlier today that the #Steelers feel like they're "getting closer" on their quarterback situation.
In their mind, that optimism pertained to Aaron Rodgers.
Let's see...if that sentiment is mutually* held towards the consummation of a deal, at some point."
Josina Anderson: Steelers reportedly optimistic about QB situation, Rodgers
If this chapter could finally be closed, it'd be great for everyone involved. The Steelers have seemingly put all of their eggs into this basket and if Rodgers doesn't sign with Pittsburgh, the team will be in a major bind at quarterback.
What this report sounds like is that the Steelers are feeling confident about getting their quarterback situation figured out and Anderson notes that Rodgers is a part of that optimism. That means Rodgers has to be the guy, right?
If it is Rodgers coming to the Steel City, it likely wouldn't be for very long. He's 41 years old and will turn 42 at the end of the year. He's also not the same guy he once was for the Packers but at the same time, he looked just fine for the Jets last year (that team had plenty of other issues in their eventual 5-12 finish).
Perhaps we're finally going to have a conclusion to Rodgers gate here soon, Steelers fans. We'll have to continue to wait and see how this whole situation plays out.
