Few envisioned Anderson as more than a depth piece who would have to overcome many challenges just to make a roster spot when he was drafted. The versatile interior lineman found ways of sticking on the team throughout his years and is now slated to be their starting right guard. Anderson could be the next contract the Steelers sign to a team-friendly agreement.

Everyone wants to see what happens with Joey Porter Jr. and his potential contract extension with the Steelers. Although many media outlets are covering the tough negotiations, expect an agreement to eventually be reached before Week 1 of the regular season. If Pittsburgh fails to iron out a long-term agreement, the club could hold the defender under contract control for this season and next.
Outside of Porter, Spencer Anderson makes the most sense to land a new bag of cash.
He is heading into his first season as a starter in the NFL, but Omar Khan has already shown this summer that he isn't afraid to invest early in players. He paid both Nick Herbig and Keeanu Benton handsomely, and neither is a full-time starter. With that said, both Herbig and Benton have played more than Anderson.
Any potential contract reached with Anderson would see his cap hit rise significantly compared to what it is now. That being said, it shouldn't be too expensive compared to others since he was a seventh-round pick back in 2023. Without significant starting experience to lean on in negotiations, Khan could sign the guard to a reasonable dollar amount that could age like fine wine.
On the flip side, re-signing Anderson could pose some risks if he doesn't work out as a long-term starting right guard. Then again, if Khan inks him to a deal that is easy to get out of, it could be worth considering. Everyone wants Porter to get his new contract done first, but Spencer Anderson is a player who could be cheap and see his new contract become team-friendly.
