Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth has been loved by fans since he arrived to the team back in 2021. Establishing himself as the team’s top tight end, fans loved what Freiermuth offered the Steelers on the field, but now they have a reason to love him for his contributions off the field.
Prior to being traded to the Dallas Cowboys back in May, former Steelers receiver George Pickens planned to hold a youth football camp on June 28, at Highmark Stadium. Once it became official that he’d no longer be a Steeler, Pickens said he would still honor his commitment and return to Pittsburgh for the pre-planned youth camp. The veteran receiver has since had a change of heart.
On Wednesday, TruEdge, the company working with Pickens to put on the camp, announced that the Cowboys receiver was no longer interested in attending the camp. TruEdge didn’t hold back on Pickens for his decision, as the company felt he carelessly abandoned an excited group of youth campers.
Fortunately, Freiermuth came to the rescue, agreeing to step in and replace Pickens so that the camp can still go on. While this event had nothing to do with the veteran tight end, his willingness to step up shows the kind of person he is.

Freiermuth wasn’t involved in this event at all, and if the entire camp had to be cancelled, it wouldn’t have had anything to do with him. Still, he is sacrificing his time, and forgoing any other plans he had to show his commitment to the youth and families of Pittsburgh. If nothing else, that’s reason enough to forever be a Pat Freiermuth fan.
Fortunately for the Steelers, Freiermuth also gives on-field reasons to be a fan of his, catching 220 passes for 2,190 yards and 18 touchdowns in four years with the team. After his latest commitment to Pittsburgh, fans will scream MUUUUUUUTH as loud as they ever have when he’s back on the field in 2025.
