The Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Aaron Rodgers might have been the boldest move of the offseason. How will the veteran QB play in 2025? The Pittsburgh Steelers are again trying a one-year rental at the QB position, and at some point, they will learn their lesson.
It would be wise for this team to eventually take a bold swing on a QB in the NFL Draft, but the front office obviously does not want to go down that path just yet. Pittsburgh signed Aaron Rodgers and also tried to put some key players around him with their acquisitions of DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith.
While people debate whether or not Aaron Rodgers will play well in 2025, the main reason why he could have success in 2025 is simply not what you think...
Aaron Rodgers was money down the stretch for the New York Jets in 2024
Yes, DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith are notable additions, and yes, Pittsburgh did already have some key offensive talent in the building, but the personnel may not be the main reason why Rodgers will succeed - this veteran QB, a 41-year-old, may actually have a good bit of gas left in the tank.
Rodgers finished with an OK 90.5 passer rating on the Jets in 2024, but if we look at his final 10 games, a different picture is painted. While the Jets did go 3-7, Rodgers still managed to throw 2,234 yards, 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions for a much more solid 97 passer rating.
In fact, Rodgers' final 10 games stretched over a 17-game season came out to 30.6 touchdowns, 6.8 interceptions, and a 97 passer rating. He was on pace to throw for just under 3,800 yards during that stretch as well. Let's just say for a second that Rodgers did throw for 31 touchdowns on just seven interceptions in 2025 - how far could this team go in the playoffs?
You'd almost wonder if this team could even win a playoff game with that type of quarterback production. While I am not necessarily saying it's a guarantee that Aaron Rodgers is going to play well, it is impossible to ignore how money he was down the stretch for New York in 2024.
