Steelers can move on after new odds reveal almost no shot at dream trade target

Looks like this potential trade candidate isn't going anywhere.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have managed to cobble together a somewhat effective offense with the ancient Aaron Rodgers at the helm, but the lack of wide receiver talent has proven to be so concerning outside of DK Metcalf that it puts a hard ceiling on their offensive potential.

The NFL trade deadline presents a perfect opportunity for this front office to not only address the depth, but to potentially land a long-term WR2 that can keep this offense performing well long after the aging Rodgers decides to hang up his cleats.

One such player is New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave, who has been viewed by many contending teams as a possible trade chip who could take any offense from average to well above it as soon as he touches down. Unfortunately, the Steelers' dream target may be nothing more than a fantasy.

ESPN's Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler listed Olave as having a minuscule 10% chance of getting traded, which should be enough to convince Steelers fans not to further pursue this line of inquiry. Olave is a Saint, and that isn't changing any time soon.

Pittsburgh Steelers dealt very low chance of acquiring Chris Olave via trade

Olave is the Saints' leading receiver once again, putting together a fine season despite the up-and-down play of Spencer Rattler and a new head coach in Kellen Moore trying to dig this team out from years of some gross mismanagement from Mickey Loomis and the front office.

Rattler hasn't been amazing, and Tyler Shough is still waiting in the wings, but the offense has looked good enough to convince fans that 2026 might be worth kicking off with this untouched quarterback situation. As such, trading Olave seems less likely than ever before for the pass-catching-hungry Steelers.

If Pittsburgh is indeed going to spend what available draft capital they have on another wide receiver, one target that might make more sense is Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders. He has openly stated he wants out, might cost less in a trade, and could be a better fit for this style.

The Steelers would be doing their fans a huge disservice if they were unable to come out of the 2025 trade deadline without at least one more big-name acquisition, but if they are putting all of their eggs into the Olave basket, they may need to come up with a backup plan.
