Steelers could realistically watch Lamar Jackson leave the Ravens sooner than later

Well, this would be something...

For a while now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have had Lamar Jackson's number. The 2-time NFL MVP might be one who's tormented plenty of teams over the course of his career, but the Steelers still boast a 7-3 record against the Baltimore Ravens' franchise quarterback.

That's not to say it's been fun playing against the dual threat, but Pittsburgh has had a good game plan for the Ravens' signal caller over the years.

Yet, if you were to tell Steelers fans there'd soon be a world where they wouldn't have to face Jackson twice a year, chances are, most of them would be all for it. And, it isn't too crazy an idea, either.

FanSided's NFL insider, Jason La Canfora, wrote about the idea in his latest column after chatting with league sources. La Canfora touched on Baltimore restructuring Jackson's deal, but not having a whole lot of leverage when it comes to getting a new contract done:

“They didn’t have much leverage before the restructure,” one GM said, “and now they don’t have any. You either sign him before the season or there’s a good chance he’s not there in 2027.”

Pittsburgh Steelers fans could see Lamar Jackson traded out of the AFC North in 2027

Jackson's current contract runs through the 2027 campaign, but it's widely known that the Ravens need to secure a new multi-year extension with the former Louisville standout. After so many quarterbacks have received raises since his current deal was put in place, it is now time for Jackson to cash in once more.

But the Ravens haven't gotten it done. It's curious, too, because over the course of the offseason, there have been some whispers of a potential Jackson trade. All they've been are whispers, and nothing even close to imminent has come of them, but it's worth noting the idea has been floated.

You don't hear those ideas being floated about the likes of Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, for context.

If the Ravens continue dragging their feet on a new deal for Jackson, it appears as though there's a good chance he could be traded after the 2026 season is done.

The hilarious part of a Jackson trade would be just how bad Baltimore would be without him. Admittedly, Jackson gets a lot of criticism for the Ravens' failure to get over the hump. But, let's call a spade a spade: Jackson doesn't play kicker, nor does he play tight end.

If you know, you know.

Should the Ravens ever trade Jackson, the league and those so-called "experts" will find out real fast that he obviously wasn't the issue.

As for the Steelers?

This fan base would be happy not to have to play him twice each season. There's no beating around the bush, there.
