Under the leadership of Mike McCarthy, the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the offseason with more financial flexibility than fans are used to seeing. With the NFL salary cap having shattered the $300M mark, Pittsburgh has the ammo to be uncharacteristically aggressive in fixing an offense that struggled for consistency in 2025.

However, the Steelers must be responsible witht its ample cap space. Important extensions for players like Nick Herbig, Keeanu Benton, and Joey Porter Jr. will require them to leave space open for expensive salary increases.

Here is the 2026 FA blueprint for Pittsburgh, with one new addition from each tier of player.

The Blue-Chip: Wyatt Teller, RG

With the long-time Cleveland Brown currently sitting without a contract, the Steelers could have a rare opportunity to snag a three-time Pro Bowler from their direct rivals.

  • The Fit: The Steelers' offensive line needs a tone-setter, and if the Steelers move on from a vet like Isaac Seumalo, Teller provides an immediate upgrade on the interior.
  • The Price Tag: As one of the top guards on the market, Teller will command a high-end salary. However, with the Browns transitioning to a youth movement up front, Pittsburgh can leverage its top-10 cap space to outbid competitors for a blue-chip anchor.

The Realistic Starter: Christian Kirk, WR

After a productive postseason with the Houston Texans, Kirk enters free agency as the ideal chain-mover for McCarthy’s offensive system.

  • The Fit: With the receiver room currently thin behind DK Metcalf, the Steelers need a polished route runner who can dominate the slot. Kirk is a well-regarded teammate with a history of 1,000-yard production, and he would serve as an ideal veteran safety valve for whoever starts under center.
  • The Price Tag: At age 29/30, Kirk is expected to land a respectable veteran starter contract hovering around $5.5M per year.

The Bargain Bridge: Tyquan Lewis, EDGE

Even with T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig leading the charge, the Steelers' defensive philosophy requires depth to keep the pass rush relentless through four quarters.

  • The Fit: Lewis is a versatile 265-pound edge rusher who can also slide inside on passing downs. While he isn't a double-digit sack specialist (five sacks the last two years combined), he is a high-effort player who can provide 15–20 critical snaps a game.
  • The Price Tag: $3M AAV. Lewis is the definition of a high-value bargain. The move would allow the Steelers to maintain their defensive dominance without overextending their budget for a rotational role.
