With less than a month to go until the 2026 NFL Draft, we're getting a good sense of the players who could be available to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 21 overall pick this year. Wide receiver is a position at the forefront, while we can't rule out the offensive line or safety as options. One of those players on Pittsburgh's draft radar is Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell.
However, after the latest injury scare, the Steelers could be out on Terrell as a first-round option.
On Monday, Terrell was set to host a private Pro Day at Clemson, as the potential first-round pick was unable to take part in Clemson's Pro Day on March 12 due to an injury. Unfortunately, Terrell aggravated his hamstring injury on the very first run of his private Pro Day, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Now the talented cornerback could see his draft stock plummet.
Cornerback hardly feels like the most likely route in Round 1 for the Steelers, especially after retaining Asante Samuel Jr. and signing Jamel Dean to a contract in free agency. But we couldn't rule this out as an option. Perhaps now we can.
The latest NFL Draft consensus board from FanSided Senior Contributor Marcus Mosher had Terrell as the 27th overall prospect. Considering the Steelers are set to pick 21st overall, this would have put the Clemson product in play as a potential first-round option.
But an injury may have been all Omar Khan needed to cross Terrell off his draft board.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are unlikely to target Clemson CB Avieon Terrell in the NFL Draft after latest injury scare
It would have been hard enough for the Steelers to run their card to the podium for Terrell at pick No. 21 this year. Though he's widely considered a top-three cornerback in the class, this is hardly the biggest need for Pittsburgh, and going this route would have required them to ignore the offense with their top pick in the draft.
While we can't say for sure that Terrell will be off Khan's draft board entirely, the chances of the play-making cornerback being the selection in Round 1 just went way down.
After measuring in at the NFL Combine at just 5'10 3/4'' and 186 pounds with 31-inch arms, Terrell wasn't able to do any athletic testing due to his hamstring injury. After the latest flare-up, NFL teams have plenty of reason to be concerned about his injuries.
In November 2025, Terrell suffered a quad injury during the Palmetto Bowl against South Carolina. Since then, he suffered a hamstring pull at the Combine, was unable to go for Clemson's official Pro Day early in March, and injured himself on his first run at his private workout.
As a slightly undersized cornerback, Terrell needed to answer questions for NFL teams ahead of the draft, but he wasn't able to do so.
Terrell was an impressive player for three straight years in college. Over the past two seasons, the star defensive back recorded two interceptions and eight forced fumbles. Now we could see a sharp decline in his draft stock. This could bump him from being a potential mid-first-round pick to a late first or even early second-round pick.
In the same way, despite the hamstring injury, Terrell is too talented to fall to Pittsburgh's second-round pick at No. 53 overall.
Either way, the latest Avieon Terrell injury news likely ends any talk about him being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2026 NFL Draft.
