Steelers may have found Mike McCarthy his perfect slot weapon on Day 2

It's not Makai Lemon, but he could be the answer they need inside.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans were desperately hoping that general manager Omar Khan would make up for his first-round blunder involving wide receiver Makai Lemon with a big Day 2, and he may have pulled it off.

The overall haul by the Steelers in rounds two and three is a bit of a mixed bag, especially the polarizing Drew Allar pick at 76. What shouldn't be questioned, at least in my opinion, is the trade up to pick 47 for Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans can breathe easier after landing Germie Bernard on Day 2

Once the Steelers missed out on Lemon thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles, finding a wide receiver capable of starting in the slot right away became a must. Bernard gives them that, and he has the potential to be a future No. 2 receiver once one of Michael Pittman Jr. or DK Metcalf moves on down the line.

Bernard isn't the biggest, or strongest, or fastest, or...well, you get it. He isn't a physical specimen by any means, at least not compared to many other receivers in this class. What he does bring in spades, though, is toughness and versatility to play multiple roles for your offense.

He was used in the slot, out wide, in the backfield, pretty much everywhere a receiver can make an impact for you, he did it. Head coach Mike McCarthy talked about what he is looking for in a potential slot receiver, and he might as well have just pulled up a picture of Bernard.

He gives McCarthy the flexibility to use Michael Pittman Jr. as a big slot, something that I think could help him remain effective as he approaches 30. He does all the dirty work that you don't want to ask DK Metcalf to do. He runs crisp routes and has elite quickness.

I could keep going on and on about why I think the Steelers may have found the guy they really needed for this receiver room, but I think fans will find out quickly what he is made of once the pads go on this summer.
