Steelers' next move after drafting Max Iheanachor couldn't be clearer

With the offensive line addressed, it's all about playmakers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were long expected to attack either the offensive line or add more playmakers with their first-round pick, and the edge went to the trenches as usual. Arizona State right tackle Max Iheanachor is the newest addition to a talented and young offensive line, and he seems destined to push Troy Fautanu to the left side and end the Broderick Jones experiment.

With the offensive line now handled (at least the tackle spot), the top priority is finding a third receiver to pair with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. With Roman Wilson being the only other viable receiver currently under contract, the only hole on the roster you could argue is more glaring is left guard.

Still, the Steelers have far more depth at guard than receiver. At pick 53 (or a trade-up perhaps?), they must draft a new weapon for whoever ultimately plays quarterback in 2026.

With Max Iheanachor in tow, the Pittsburgh Steelers need to hunt for a new receiver

Luckily for the Steelers, there are still a ton of talented receivers available after Day 1 of the draft. Washington's Denzel Boston, Alabama's Germie Bernard, UConn's Skyler Bell, and Tennessee's Chris Brazzell are all players who are likely to go relatively quickly once Day 2 kicks off.

Sitting at 53 and still armed with 10 other picks, moving up into the late 30s or early 40s to secure one of those prospects would be the bold move general manager Omar Khan needs after the disastrous Makai Lemon-Eagles situation on Thursday. It wouldn't completely make up for it in the eyes of fans, but landing a highly graded receiver and a toolsy tackle would be hard to complain about.

If they choose not to move up, they could be looking at another tier down in terms of talent, further infuriating the fanbase. It just makes too much sense for them to use some of their surplus picks and guarantee themselves a player capable of coming in and helping out right away.

If Khan doesn't come away with a receiver of that caliber early on Day 2, things could get even uglier in terms of his reputation in the Steel City.
