The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering another offseason with uncertainty at the quarterback position... and it's not about to get any clearer. After spending most of the 2025 offseason awaiting a decision on Aaron Rodgers, Omar Khan admits that his team is once again waiting to hear from the aging quarterback.
On Tuesday, Khan spoke to the local Pittsburgh media ahead of his official NFL Combine press conference. Khan was quickly asked about Rodgers, and his response was less than encouraging, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
"I know you guys are going to ask about Aaron [Rodgers]. So, nothing new to add. I've been in communication with Aaron... I know Mike [McCarthy] has also. We've been in good communication, honest communication, but nothing new to report there...
I don't really want to say it has to be done by [free agency], but I don't see this going like it did last year."
Steelers fans want answers at the quarterback position, and we didn't get them from the team's general manager ahead of the NFL Combine. Now we are once again forced to play the waiting game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers can't drag their feet waiting for QB Aaron Rodgers
Last year, it wasn't until after the 2025 NFL Draft that Aaron Rodgers officially decided to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. While we assumed this was the team's answer all along, the Steelers were forced to wait and hold out hope.
For whatever reason, Khan and the organization seem like they are willing to put the fate of their season in the hands of Rodgers once again.
Rodgers had an incredible NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, which included four MVP awards. He's going to earn a bust in Canton when he's up for Hall of Fame eligibility. But what he offered the team last season wasn't enough.
Rodgers ranked near the bottom of the league in average depth per target, yards per target, and completed air yards per target. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old offers next to nothing from a mobility standpoint.
It's unwise of Omar Khan to even give Aaron Rodgers the opportunity to dictate the direction of the organization in 2026. However, for a lack of better options at the quarterback position, the Steelers are forced to play the waiting game yet again. At least this time, it doesn't sound like the team will wait as long for a decision from Rodgers.
