If you were upset when the Pittsburgh Steelers passed on Shedeur Sanders with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, you're going to hate what happened in Round 3. The polarizing quarterback saw a colossal slide that nobody saw coming. Not only did Sanders fall out of the first round, but the Steelers had him dead in the rights at pick No. 83 in the third round.
But instead of rushing to turn in their card for the best remaining player on Mel Kiper Jr.'s big board, the Steelers passed on Sanders for Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson.
Johnson is an excellent prospect and was one of the best running backs in the draft. But the Steelers also had a need at quarterback, and Sanders clearly was not a priority as some had hoped.
This isn't going to sit well with a large group of Pittsburgh Steelers fans who were hoping Sanders would have been the pick at 21 overall in Round 1. Shockingly, Sanders slides into Day 3 of the NFL Draft, and fans know exactly what that means.
The Pittsburgh Steelers won't draft quarterback Shedeur Sanders
Regardless of whether you want to admit it, you know that the Pittsburgh Steelers' passing on Shedeur Sanders twice means this team won't draft him. If general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin thought he was a franchise quarterback, there's no chance they would pass on him with the 83rd overall pick for a running back.
Sanders' monumental draft free-fall becomes one of the most unpredictable moments in NFL Draft history. Arguably college football's best player from the 2024 season still doesn't have a home entering the third day of the NFL Draft, and you have to wonder just how poorly things went during the pre-draft process to fall this far.
Shedeur is known to have a bit of an abrasive personality, and at this point, it doesn't look like there's a team out there that wants to deal with the distractions that might come with the pick. This is wild. Shedeur Sanders might not be a franchise quarterback in the NFL, but he deserved to be off the board by now.
You can bet the Pittsburgh Steelers won't draft him if they haven't by now.
