Now that the 2025 NFL draft is just weeks away, the Pittsburgh Steelers are nearly finished with their pre-draft visits. It has been a healthy mix of players who would help fill key needs on the roster, with an emphasis on the trenches and skill positions.

One position that may be settled for 2025, but certainly not for 2026 and beyond, is cornerback.

Joey Porter Jr. has been up and down in his career, but he is too talented to give up on anytime soon. Outside of him, there are no established players who are locks to be future starters.

This year's corner class is strong at the top, but the second tier of prospects feels like day-two picks across the board. That's why the Steelers' latest draft visit signals one of their potential strategies on draft night.

Pittsburgh Steelers draft visit with Ole Miss CB Trey Amos could signal trading down in 2025 NFL draft

Ole Miss CB Trey Amos is the Steelers' latest pre-draft visitor, alongside his teammate, Elijah Roberts. Amos is one of the top players at his position in the draft, but he still profiles as a likely early second-round pick.

With the Steelers lacking a second-round pick after the D.K. Metcalf trade, bringing in Amos is a clear sign that they may be willing to trade back from pick 21 in the first round.

The Steelers rarely trade back in the draft, especially in the first round, but this would be the year to do it with how the talent in the 2025 class stacks up. Most experts view players in the 15 to 50 range as similar in talent, so moving back to add another Day 2 pick could be worthwhile.

A team may want to come up and secure the best player left at a position of need, like offensive line or receiver, and the Steelers would get to recoup draft capital and still get a player they like.

It's possible that Omar Khan and the front office like Amos enough to consider him at 21, but a trade down into the 30s before selecting him makes far more sense.
