Sometimes having a bad start to training camp isn't the end of the world for some Pittsburgh Steelers on the roster bubble. Although training camp might pose their best shot at staying in the roster conversation, the preseason gives them another opportunity to keep their name in the mix.
Even if some players didn't produce quality summers thus far, the three preseason games give them a chance to right their wrongs.
As the Steelers enter their preseason schedule, players will see their opportunities start to dwindle as they attempt to show the coaching staff why they belong. Time is starting to become a factor against those who are struggling to make a positive impact. For those who are on the roster bubble and must show more, the preseason gives them ample opportunity to turn their fortunes around.
Only 53 players will make the Steelers' final roster, and there are some interesting battles that could come down to the wire. People will have the quarterbacks highlighted as a position to watch, but don't discount some other players who could benefit from strong preseason outings. Perhaps some haven't made a strong impression at training camp, but they could come alive under the lights.

Eli Heidenreich, WR/RB/RET
After sustaining an injury at training camp, Eli Heidenreich is back just in time for the preseason.
His opportunities in Latrobe have been few, but if he can show his versatility as a player on offense and be a reliable returner, then Heidenreich can force himself back into the roster conversation. The seventh-round pick has a lot to prove over these next three games to have a shot at sticking around.
Sebastian Castro, S
There have been few mentions of Sebastian Castro, which is troubling for the former undrafted safety. His best shot of overcoming the roster bubble will be if he can show his reliability as a special teams contributor on punt and kick coverage. The preseason will be vital for Castro. Right now, Robert Spears-Jennings seems ahead of him in the roster conversation, and it could spell disaster.
Will Howard, QB
Fans will not like the idea of Will Howard potentially getting the axe after the preseason, but it could happen.
Mason Rudolph is the reliable backup they want behind Aaron Rodgers, but Will Howard could change that tune. His time at training camp has left more to be desired, but he has more opportunity in front of him. A strong preseason could force his name back into the conversation.
Jamin Davis, LB
After a strong start to the summer workouts, many assumed Jamin Davis would carry that over into training camp. Currently, Davis is on the outside looking in when it comes to his chances of making the roster. If he fails to show some versatility as an inside/outside linebacker, then he is as good as gone. The preseason is where Davis must use his previous NFL experience to his advantage.
