The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for their international game against the New Orleans Saints in Paris, France. But one player they will not have to prepare for is first-round pick Jordyn Tyson.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter noted that Tyson will not practice this week, which means that the Saints won't have their talented receiver for the first time this season.
Based on the original timetable, it looked like there was a solid chance the Steelers would have to prepare to face Tyson. The Arizona State prospect suffered a hamstring injury during a joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 13 and was given an approximate two-month timetable to return to the field.
However, we're past the two-month point, and Tyson still isn't practicing with his team—a clear indication that his NFL debut will have to wait.
The Pittsburgh Steelers catch a break avoiding WR Jordyn Tyson
The New Orleans Saints could still give the Steelers fits. Quarterback Tyler Shough already has a 400-yard performance under his belt this season, and the second-year QB has put up at least 250 passing yards in four of six games, while throwing for at least three touchdowns three times.
The Steelers' number one priority should be slowing down star receiver Chris Olave, who has been spectacular in 2026. Meanwhile, veteran tight end Juwan Johnson has frequently exploited the middle of the field early this season.
But outside of this, the Saints don't have a ton of threatening options.
To his credit, New Orleans' current WR2, Devaughn Vele, has had a respectable season so far, but the 6'5'' wideout hasn't topped 69 receiving yards in any game this season despite earning between six and nine targets in all six contests.
That's where Tyson could have made things really difficult on the Steelers' cornerbacks.
With Joey Porter Jr. gone, the Steelers' cornerback trio of Jamel Dean, Asante Samuel Jr., and Daylen Everette have done a respectable job over the past three weeks (and Jalen Ramsey has worn many hats in the secondary for Pittsburgh). But now they'll get a bigger test.
Shough isn't considered a top-tier QB by any stretch at this stage of his career, but he's playing better than the likes of Deshaun Watson, Daniel Jones, and Jalon Daniels, whom the Steelers faced over the past three weeks. If he had one more quality option in the passing game, this really could have tested Pittsburgh's secondary.
Tyson is a phenomenal talent—perhaps one of the most talented players from the 2026 NFL Draft. However, his issue has always been availability. At over 6'2'' and 200-plus pounds, he has unnatural hip fluidity and movement skills for a bigger receiver.
Because Tyson hasn't suited up for his first NFL game yet, we may not hear much about him this week. But had he been able to play, Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham would have had a much more difficult game plan on his hands in Paris.
As it stands, if the Steelers can slow down Olave, they will have a good chance to come away with a victory on Sunday.
