The Pittsburgh Steelers finished up their organized team activities, and while the focus should be on player growth, everyone can’t stop talking about Aaron Rodgers' signing. After months of speculation, the veteran finally inked a deal with Pittsburgh.
However, that news can’t take away from the fact that Roman Wilson dominated these early sessions.
The former third-round pick had as disappointing a rookie season as you could have had. Despite a shallow receiver room, injuries and some reportedly bad practices kept him on the sidelines for all but five snaps.
A lot was riding on this offseason. The Steelers traded George Pickens and have left their wide receiver room wide open once again. The hope is that someone can step up, and it seems like Wilson could be that guy.
It seems like Roman Wilson is on the right track for the Pittsburgh Steelers
While it is still extremely early, Wilson shining right now is better than nothing. In particular, his routes and sharp cuts look potent, and he could carve out a role quickly as a player who just knows how to get open.
This offense was missing that last year, and while Wilson didn’t become that player then, he can correct that issue now. This could prove valuable both out of the slot and even as an outside receiver.

Numerous videos like this have surfaced of his crisp route running, and while practice certainly isn’t as physical as it will get, it is still a good sign. He needs to be able to carry this goodwill into Latrobe later this summer, though.
His path to being a significant contributor does get hit with the recent Rodgers signing. A known perfectionist, young receivers have tended to struggle with Rodgers at the helm. While no longer a rookie, Wilson will have to earn the trust of Rodgers to get in his good graces.
No matter how this ends up, Wilson has started his sophomore season off on a strong note. He looks the part of a viable starting receiver that can win short and intermediate, and that is a great compliment to this vertical passing game. Ideally, he needs to stack some more solid practices, but Wilson is off to a great start after a miserable rookie season.
