The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-1, and they will play the 1-4 Cleveland Browns in Week 6. While Cleveland provides some challenges, Pittsburgh should be able to pick up another win. With the circumstances of the other two AFC North teams, the Steelers could start to run away with the division. However, the team knows it’s early and that there is a lot more work to be done.
That would explain why the Steelers are reportedly trying to be active ahead of the November 4 trade deadline. Andrew Fillipponi, of 93.7 The Fan, recently reported that Pittsburgh reached out to the New Orleans Saints to see if they were interested in moving speedy receiver and return man, Rashid Shaheed. Nothing has happened yet, but Pittsburgh would seemingly love to have another weapon on offense.
Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly reached out to the Saints about Rashid Shaheed
Shaheed has all the makings of a trade candidate, as he is a productive player on a struggling team, and also in the final season of his contract. New Orleans would certainly love to keep him on the roster for the remainder of the year, and in the future, but if the franchise doubts it would be able to re-sign him, it’ll be understandable for the Saints to move him before he walks in free agency.
Currently in his fourth season, Shaheed was a Pro Bowl returner in 2023, but he has developed into an explosive wideout. On the season, playing in five games so far, he leads the Saints with 288 receiving yards on 22 receptions and also has 22 touchdowns. In his career, he has 116 catches for 1,844 yards and 12 touchdowns, as well as 19 carries for 128 rushing yards and an additional touchdown.
Shaheed would be a perfect deep-threat addition to a Steelers offense that needs a receiver who can take the top off. Pittsburgh seemingly understands that, leading the team to reach out to New Orleans. Time will tell if the Saints are open to this deal, but it would be a wise move for the Steelers to make if they are.
