Steelers rumor links to Pro Bowlers (but not at the position you'd expect)

Take it with a grain of salt but help in the secondary could be on the way.

It might not be the most pressing need for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but a new rumor has them connected to two different cornerbacks. According to a questionable source on X, the Steelers are working hard to land Jalen Ramsey or Jaire Alexander. The user known as Slick Rick Scoops has an up-and-down track record as an amateur NFL insider. He has landed some blockbusters before.

He tweeted that Steelers GM Omar Khan is hard at work, "The Steelers have inquired about both Jaire Alexander and Jalen Ramsey. I'm expecting the Steelers to acquire one of them. Omar is cooking"

With their minicamp in full swing, it wouldn't shock many to see Khan try to land an upgrade to his roster, but a cornerback would be surprising. Adding Ramsey would require a trade, which would steal from Pittsburgh's pot of picks in next year's draft, which they hope to trade up for a quarterback. They will need as many selections in the 2026 NFL Draft as possible to get their young signal caller.

The Green Bay Packers let Alexander go as a cap dump. He has struggled with injuries over the past couple of years, which made him expendable. The Steelers have an interest in the free agent, but it doesn't make too much sense for the veteran cornerback to sign with Pittsburgh. They have starting options on the team, and his role wouldn't be crystal clear.

Expect a cornerback to join the Pittsburgh Steelers according to an uncommon source

Out of the two names mentioned in this rumor, Alexander would make the most sense financially. He shouldn't cost much to sign after becoming a cap casualty. He is still getting a good amount of money this season, and the Steelers could potentially lure him onto the team on a cheap one-year contract. He would provide stability, but Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay hold the two starting spots.

Unless the former Packer is willing to learn how to be an effective slot cornerback, it doesn't make too much sense for either side. Unless the Steelers want to move Porter or Slay, the addition of Alexander would only provide unique depth to the cornerback position. That is great in theory, but Alexander will want to start games with the hope of landing a hefty raise as a free agent next year.

Ramsey is a different story as the once top-flight cornerback of the NFL is starting to struggle with age.

The Miami Dolphins have made him available for trade during most of the offseason. They have struggled to find a buyer, and this source claims the Steelers have interest. Adding Ramsey in a trade shouldn't cost too many assets, but the monumental contract he tows with him is unattractive.

It would cost more financially, and whatever draft picks you must give up to land Ramsey, but he would be the better fit. He has played in the slot, but he also started games as a boundary cornerback and even some snaps at safety. If the Steelers are attacking this need, Ramsey might be the best choice if they can acquire him for a late-round pick and have the Dolphins pay some of his bills.
