Don't fully rule out the gunslinger from returning once more.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers report to training camp, some familiar faces have appeared in front of the media to answer some questions. Although Aaron Rodgers came out publicly to declare this being his final season of his career, don't be so certain that will be the case. His top target on offense, DK Metcalf, appears eager to see the quarterback stick around for a while longer.

Metcalf spoke to the media as part of the start of training camp, and had this to say about his QB.

"I mean, people just say things at the beginning of the year, not knowing how a year could go." Metcalf said, "He may not even get hit or touched this year and may say, 'Hey, let's go out there and do another one.'"

It's clear that Rodgers' intention going into this campaign is his final one. That being said, he had some similar comments going into last season, and yet, he is back for another year with the Steelers despite the massive changes within the organization. Everyone should assume this to be his final go-around, but DK Metcalf's comments should raise some eyebrows.

Taking things year by year might be the best approach for Aaron Rodgers as he continues to age.

Many within Steelers Nation were ready to move on from the veteran passer, but the team wasn't. He is a steady leader in the locker room and someone who should be able to help the team's transition from Mike Tomlin to Mike McCarthy. It will be interesting to see how this season plays out.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers could return for another year according to DK Metcalf

Many fans will roll their eyes at the thought of bringing back Aaron Rodgers for another year beyond this one. Most of those opinions will have to wait to see whether their hopes or concerns are validated once the season begins. If the aging quarterback struggles to keep the Steelers in contention this year, he could see plenty of scrutiny go his way.

DK Metcalf's comments will catch the headlines, but there might be some undertones to monitor as training camp and the upcoming season progress. The quarterback keeps a tight lid on his future, and most of his life, but Metcalf is someone close to the future Hall of Famer. Perhaps he knows something that many others did not. Otherwise, it could all just be conjecture.

The level of competitor that Aaron Rodgers is will force him into a tough situation when he eventually retires.

The Steelers seem confused about the future situation at the quarterback position, but if this campaign is a success with Rodgers, don't rule out another return. He is older, but the organization seems willing to keep the player around for as long as possible.

Kicking the proverbial quarterback can down the road continues for Pittsburgh, and having Aaron Rodgers return in 2027 seems unlikely, but not something you can rule out. DK Metcalf might be starting his early recruitment for Rodgers to return next year, but the Steelers must see how training camp and this upcoming season unfold before they consider that possibility.
