If you're going to put your hopes in 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, you might as well go all-in. The Pittsburgh Steelers are once again gearing up for a playoff push, and they've been aggressive in adding veterans to help their cause.

But they still have a major weakness on offense. Outside of D.K. Metcalf, there aren't any reliable wide receivers on this roster. If the Steelers are willing to make yet another offseason splash, the most obvious answer is staring them right in the face.

Washington Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin is holding out while he negotiates for a new contract. If the two sides can't come to a deal, a trade may be on the table. And the Steelers could put together a package too good for Washington to pass up.

Pittsburgh Steelers could add Terry McLaurin with this trade package

In a recent article, Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay listed a trade idea for each NFL team before the start of the 2025 season. Some of the proposals were minor. Others, not so much.

Kay had the Steelers taking a huge swing for McLaurin to create a star-studded offense, sending a 2026 second-round pick back to Washington. McLaurin and the Commanders don't seem to be making progress in their contract talks, leading to speculation that the receiver could sit out for part of the regular season.

Kay says, "The Steelers could capitalize on this situation by sending over an early-Day 2 pick for McLaurin. The team is desperate for pass-catching talent as it prepares to make a single-season push with Aaron Rodgers at the helm and should spare no expense to bolster the superstar QB's weapons."

This trade would be a massive win for Pittsburgh. But even at McLaurin's age, a second-round pick might not be enough to pry him away from the Commanders. After their breakout season in 2024, Washington is likely hoping to make another deep playoff run. It would take a significant offer to take away their best pass catcher.

So why not sweeten the offer? If Pittsburgh added a fourth-round pick to the package, it might be enough to push a deal over the line. If that doesn't do it, a depth piece on the defensive line like DeMarvin Leal could entice the Commanders.

At some point in the near future, a hard reset is likely coming for the Steelers. But that day isn't here quite yet, so why not push for one more playoff run?
