Overreaction No. 3: Steelers offensive line is still bad
Look, I know how awful the offensive line was against the 49ers in the first week of the season. Pittsburgh was bullied by the talented pass rush and run defense of San Francisco, and everyone was struggling. When watching the game the second time, it was clear to see just how bad Dan Moore Jr. played, and Isaac Seumalo might have just had the worst game of his professional career.
Regardless of what we witnessed, we can't use a one-game sample to think we have the Steelers offensive line figured out. Seumalo was playing his first regular-season game in a Steelers uniform, and first-round offensive tackle, Broderick Jones, only saw four snaps after entering the game late when Chukwuma Okorafor landed in concussion protocol.
The Steelers were outmatched man-to-man in terms of talent on the other side of the ball; there's no doubt about that. However, to think this unit can't gel and improve as the season goes on is crazy. I'm not about to throw multiple years of strong play from Seumalo out the window because of what we witnessed in one game.
No, I don't believe the Steelers are done rebuilding their offensive line. They still may need another piece or two in order to get this unit where they truly need it to be. Having said that, I'm not going to overreact to one bad performance in Week 1 or have the mindset that the OL can't or won't be improved in 2023.
