The Steelers coaching staff needs to find a way to get the ‘winning train’ back on the tracks

For the last three games, the Steelers have not played well in any phase, but, particularly, on offense and defense. The results were what we would expect:  Three consecutive losses, two of which were conference losses.

I don’t know about you, but, to me, this season has quickly faded into oblivion with very little hope of righting the ship, as it were.  That’s not to say that it can’t be done, but I think it would take nothing short of a miracle for us to be playing meaningful football in January.

The game against the Colts was a microcosm of almost the entire 2023 season.  We were disjointed on both sides of the ball, we frankly looked like we didn’t know what we were doing, and we played with a lack of discipline that cost us over one hundred yards in penalties.

That falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff and, in particular, on the shoulders of Tomlin, who acknowledged that during the post-game press conference.  I was glad to hear that acknowledgment, but I want to see action.

Words are hollow without action.  For example, if Trubisky starts against the Bengals, that is the same as saying we don’t care about winning this game but let’s see how it goes.  At this point, I don’t think Tomlin has any choice but to start Mason Rudolph.

Maybe Rudolph doesn’t play well, and we lose or maybe he provides that spark that the offense needs, and we win. Defensively, we had better figure out how to stop the run and how to not draw penalties. The defense had been the strength of the team for several weeks but, sadly, has become a liability in the last three games.

The Steelers 2023 regular season has three games remaining.  Let’s see how we respond to a potentially season-crushing loss.  We had better respond with a win or it will be all over but the shouting and what we will be shouting will not be able to be repeated in this setting.
