Free Agency has been going on for a handful of days now. The Steelers have been fairly active and seem to be prepared to stay that way. They have plenty of avenues to keep cap space open and sign free agents if they want to. They have made plenty of splashes and also signed some of their own. It has been a busy week for the black and gold.

Pittsburgh has signed Patrick Queen, Miles Killebrew, Russell Wilson, Christian Kuntz, and Cameron Johnston upon writing this article. It seems like the club will remain active, so some of these misses could be rectified in some way.

No matter what, they missed out on these free agents and the spectacular contracts that they signed within the first couple of days of free agency.

Pittsburgh missed out on signing DaQuan Jones to a deal in Free Agency

Not only did the Steelers miss out on DaQuan Jones, but they missed out on most of the top defensive line market. There are still some quality names out there, but it seems like the Steelers won't make an earth-shattering move in the defensive trenches. We know that they have players on the roster who can start, but no one that's spectacular.

Cam Heyward is coming back from injury and is getting older. Expecting him to return to an All-pro form is almost foolish. Larry Ogunjobi has been disappointing since signing his massive contract extension last free agency. Keeanu Benton is a nice young piece, but it's unrealistic that he can become the next Heyward-type. The Steelers need to find an upgrade and they have failed thus far.

Jones is an older player, but he signed a friendly deal with the Buffalo Bills. It was only for two years and paid him about seven million per season. That is a little over what Ogunjobi makes. It would have been wise to sign Jones to that deal and have an Ogunjobi-Jones rotation next to Heyward. That way they have a starting-caliber player that can rush the passer and defend the run.
