Jermaine Eluemunor could have been a cheap upgrade at tackle

Right tackle is a position that has gotten a lot of attention from the Steelers during the pre-draft process. They seem solely focused on drafting a tackle in the top rounds of the coming draft. That is good news and bad news. It's good news because this upcoming draft is loaded with potential starting right tackles. The bad news is that Pittsburgh has a ton of other holes to fill.

Ideally, they get an upgrade at right tackle and allow Broderick Jones to flip over to the left side. It doesn't seem to bother the Steelers much if Dan Moore Jr. remains their starting left tackle for this upcoming season if they fail to address the situation. Add in the fact that upon writing this article the team has yet to replace Diontae Johnson or Mason Cole, and it could be a recipe for disaster.

Jermaine Eluemunor was a free agent earlier in the week, but the New York Giants quickly signed him to a two-year contract that pays him around $15 million per season. That is a respectable deal for a quality starting offensive tackle in the NFL. It is something the Steelers could have considered when free agency opened. They decided to go in another direction.

He was one of the best offensive tackles available. Eluemunor has mostly been a right tackle in the NFL, but he does bring some versatility. He has seen some time over on the left side. That could have provided some flexibility for the Steelers up front. It was a miss by Khan and if they cannot fix the tackle position this offseason, then they might be in for a world of hurt.
