4 free agents the Pittsburgh Steelers will regret not signing in 2024
Jordan Whitehead could have joined the Steelers in Free Agency
We know that every time a Pittsburgh native hits the free agency market, fans try their best to recruit them to the Steelers. There are a couple still out there with ties to Pittsburgh, but one of the bigger names has already moved onto his new team. Jordan Whitehead was billed as one of the top safeties in this free agency class.
The Pitt product grew up in Pittsburgh and it seemed like there could be a natural fit with him this time around. The Steelers desperately need an upgrade at safety next to Minkah Fitzpatrick. We know that this draft crop of safeties is not nearly as good as the available free agents. It seems like the pressure is on for the black and gold to sign someone.
They tried slapping a band-aid on the position last year by creating a tandem of Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal next to Fitzpatrick. They know that an upgrade must be had, and Whitehead is someone who would have been a great signing. He opted to move back to Tampa Bay and sign with the Buccaneers. The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal that will pay him around four and a half million per year.
That is a great deal for Tampa Bay with the amount of quality starting experience this safety brings with him. Whitehead would have been a terrific fit for the Steelers, and it seems like he wouldn't have broken the bank either. There are still some quality options out there for the black and gold to sign in free agency. They need to act now before we have another repeat situation on our hands.
