Elijah Riley makes a very strong case to make the Steelers roster

Most of us could guess about 50 of 53 players who will ultimately make the final roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's getting the last several players correct that's so tricky. As some players have gone quiet as of late, others are stealing the spotlight. One of those players is defensive back, Elijah Riley.

Riley had a strong performance in the preseason opener --making his mark on special teams. Now Riley is really going to catch the attention of the coaching staff following his game against the Bills. The defensive back recorded 4 solo tackles, was credited with 2 passes defended, and earned a big interception in the end zone. One of Riley's tackles came on an incredible special teams play.

The Steelers are looking for players to round out their defensive backfield, and Riley is looking like a guy who can do a little bit of everything. Whether he's playing safety, slot cornerback, or dimebacker, Riley has been making plays for the Steelers this summer.

Riley's ability on special teams alone could help him solidify a spot on this football team. However, he may have a chance to be more than just a reserve player who sees the field only in emergencies. If Riley keeps playing like this, he could carve out a role on defense in 2023.
