The Steelers could sign Andre James if they are willing to cash-in

If the Steelers want to make a splash signing at center, then there are few better options in free agency than Andre James. It seems like Pittsburgh might not have as active of an offseason as last year, but Khan has shown that he is willing to do anything to better his team. That means no one should rule out any moves until things become official.

If the Raiders allow James to leave Las Vegas, it would be a huge mistake. He took over as their starting center when Rodney Hudson was moved to the Arizona Cardinals a couple of years ago. James worked his way up from a depth piece on the roster, and eventually moved to center where he gained the starting job.

It seems like it will cost a pretty penny if the black and gold want to sign James to a contract. Spotrac projects him making 24 million over a three-year deal. That is eight million per season. It's not too pricey for a top-center option on the open market. He has a lot of starting experience at center and is coming off his best season of his career.

Bringing in someone like James would knock center off the draft board. This move would also solve the center problem for the foreseeable future. He is a quality anchor in the middle of the trenches and the Steelers would be foolish to not check his availability when free agency begins. He is the most expensive option listed in this article, but he is worth that type of money.
