5 positions the Steelers need to have their eyes glued to at the NFL Combine
The Steelers could use another strong athlete at linebacker in the Draft
Linebacker is currently a murky position of need for the Steelers in the upcoming NFL Draft. If the club opens as much spending cash as possible heading into free agency, then they could sign another starting option at middle linebacker. The desperation to add to this need will mostly depend on the timeline of Cole Holcomb's return.
He was injured early last season, and it seems like he might not be ready for the start of the regular season. The timeline of his return doesn't seem great right now, but that could always change. If Holcomb is going to miss regular season games, then trying to add another starting-caliber option next to Elandon Roberts becomes a top concern for the Steelers.
They saw firsthand how quickly depth at linebacker can be depleted. It also showed how important the position is to their defense. They need to either sign another quality depth piece that can start if needed, or draft someone before the conclusion of day two of the draft. There are some interesting linebacker options in this class that the Steelers will like.
Cedric Gray is an interesting name that is a borderline day-two prospect that the Steelers have shown interest in. Edgerrin Cooper is another linebacker that Pittsburgh is rumored to like a lot. Payton Wilson is another guy that needs to do well at the combine to boost his draft stock. He is another interesting draft option for the black and gold at linebacker.
