Now that the draft has passed, next up is training camp. In between that time, fans will start deciding who they want for their fantasy football teams and if they want a player from the Steelers.
As a Steelers fan, it’s always difficult to balance your fantasy football roster with players you like from the Steelers and other players that post lots of points. In the past few seasons, Steelers players have been hit or miss and not overly reliable to carry your team to a fantasy football championship. Still, a few do perform very well and can score your team some much-needed points at times. So here are the top five Steelers you might want to consider for your fantasy team.
Honorable Mention Calvin Austin III, WR
The Steelers grabbed two wide receivers in 2022. The only problem was Austin got injured in training camp, and we never saw him play. From what we did see in training camp, it appeared he had remarkable speed and had the potential to turn short receptions into long gains.
He returns in 2023, and we should finally have the chance to see him play. It’s hard to know at this stage if what we saw in training camp will continue into 2023 and whether he will get lots of playing time this season, although it might be a safe assumption he could also split his duties as a kick returner as well given how fast he is.
While we still have no idea how good he will be on the field, the potential for big plays is there, and thus you would not want to draft him as your number one, two, or even 3rd receiver. If he’s sitting that late in your draft and you have one final receiver slot to fill that’s when you take him. Keep him on the bench for a few weeks to give him time to show his stuff. Keeping him as a backup might be smart, as he has much upside potential. He is the player you will want to steal late in your draft, then let him work his way up in your lineup. He could also be valuable to grab in Dynasty; give him a season, and perhaps he could be your starter in 2024.
