#5 Chris Boswell, PK

Kickers in fantasy football are not your bread-and-butter players. When you are down 30 points, and your final player playing is your kicker, you can write that off as a loss. If a placekicker nets you 10 or 12 points well, you had a good week with him. If you’re in a close game, only down by one or 2 points, then your kicker production is critical.

This is where Chris Boswell comes in. He is one of the most reliable placekickers in the NFL today and has made some fairly long field goals in his career. Now granted, some years he’s in the middle of the pack when it comes to point-scoring by kickers, and some years he is at the high end. You can count on his reliability and consistency in splitting the uprights.

When choosing a kicker, you want to also consider the team he plays for. Does that team have an offense that is constantly in the redzone putting up 25-30 points a game, or does their offense struggle to put any points on the board? In the last two seasons, the Steelers have had their scoring inconsistencies, especially in the first half of games which has hurt Boswell’s production somewhat. Eventually, their scoring will pick up, and 2023 could be that year. If that happens, then Boswell's fantasy output could jump much higher than it has been in the last two years. That’s why it’s smart to pick him up; even as a backup, he could have a good 2023 season in terms of fantasy value.
