We know the Steelers are eyeing two positions carefully. They are looking at cornerbacks and offensive tackles. Although they do have a few players, they may consider, such as an edge rusher or even a defensive lineman. Regardless of which player they select, the decision generally comes down to the remaining options left on the draft board when the Steelers are on the clock; however, when you lock at the numerous mock drafts online, except for one player, opinions vary wildly as to who they might take.

Interestingly part of that is because the Steelers also hold selection 32. In a normal draft, it would be a second first-round selection, except because the Dolphins had to forfeit their first-round selection pick, 32 is the first selection in the 2nd round this year.

Yet, nonetheless, it’s the equivalent of them having two first-round selections this year. Then they select again at pick 49. Thus they could get 3 quality players early in the draft that could benefit the team greatly. Still, who they get is determined by who remains at each selection and leads to varying opinions of which players the Steelers target at each particular selection

Thus, in the 2023 draft, some teams could alter the Steelers draft plans if they select the player the Steelers had hoped to select. This is not anything new. Typically, the Steelers are used to drafting in the mid to last part of the draft; thus, fans have become accustomed to it. So in 2023, the teams that could impact the Steelers draft plans depend on two factors.

First, who would they like to select if they had that option in a perfect world? Secondly, when they are on the clock, will they need to alter their draft plans based on whose left and who may be remaining when they select in the second round?
