5 under-the-radar Steelers targets to watch at the NFL Combine
By Tommy Jaggi
Jacob Cowing, WR Arizona
Here's a player that hasn't been talked about much yet among the Steelers fanbase, but we can soon hear his name in connection with Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin reportedly met with Jacob Cowing twice at the Senior Bowl, and he could be firmly on Pittsburgh's radar if they don't take a receiver in the first few rounds this year.
This would be an interesting selection. Cowing measured in at the Senior Bowl at just 5'8 3/8'' and 165 pounds with a tiny 69 1/4'' wingspan. Selecting a player with this size profile would be a bit baffling after recently spending a fourth-round pick on Calvin Austin III in 2022 (who has a very similar frame).
Still, the interest is hard to ignore. Cowing is a player who can snap in and out of his breaks as a route runner and he can move after the catch. He has also had a ton of usage during his career at Arizona which included over 3,000 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns over the past three seasons.
Unlike Ladd McConkey, Cowing doesn't have the ideal traits to be a Diontae Johnson replacement after the 2024 season, but he could be an electrifying slot receiver. Of course, the decision to draft him probably means that Pittsburgh would be ready to turn the page on Calvin Austin. Keep a watchful eye on Jacob Cowing in Indianapolis, as this is a player the team has expressed clear interest in drafting.
