6 Steelers whose stock is soaring after preseason loss vs. Bills
By Andrew Falce
The Steelers wrapped up their second preseason game against the Bills, and the starting sides of both units saw a lot of burn. Things weren’t perfect, but it was a good chance to see what this team could do. Because of this, there are quite a few names who helped their cause in this game. Here are six Steelers whose stock is soaring after the Bills' preseason game.
Steelers whose stock is soaring after preseason Week 2
Justin Fields, QB
Neither quarterback looked great this week, but Justin Fields proved that he could be the better fit for a struggling offense. Russell Wilson was anemic through most of this game, and while Fields also struggled through the air, he was dynamic on the ground. This may still be Wilson's job to lose initially, but one has to wonder just how short his leash will be.
Dez Fitzpatrick, WR
Dez Fitzpatrick is enjoying quite the offseason so far. A forgotten name heading into camp, Fitzpatrick had proven to be a viable special teams player during his stints on and off the team. He has looked good as a receiver in preseason action though, and he has maintained his role as a core special teams player. You have to think that he is close to winning the fifth receiver job.
Dan Moore, OT
While Steelers fans have been quick to dismiss Dan Moore, he once again finds himself as a potential starter. While his play has been average, he hasn’t had the highs and lows of the younger options. In particular, Broderick Jones looked like a mess this week. Moore has likely locked up a roster spot, and he could find himself as a starter to begin this season.
Nick Herbig, EDGE
Man, was I wrong on Nick Herbig. I was skeptical of his size, but he looked great as a reserve last year. Now, he is seeing work as the third edge rusher and popped on tape against the Bills starters. He wasn’t at risk of losing his roster spot, but Herbig could quickly commend more playing time this season.
Mark Robinson, LB
One of the biggest losers of the offseason had to be Mark Robinson. The Steelers added more talent to their linebacker room, and then they reunited with Tyler Matakevich as a core special teams player. He suffered a small injury, but Robinson has played well and looked good on special teams. His roster spot may still be secure.
Cameron Johnston, P
Gotta show some love to the punting game. While the offense stalled early and often in the game, Cameron Johnston was dynamic as a punter. He was booting the ball deep and also setting up his coverage team to make plays on the return. He could be a secret weapon for this team, especially if the offense continues to struggle.
