8 potential cap-casualties that should have the Steelers salivating

Steelers could sign Nyheim Hines
On the surface, the Steelers don’t need to heavily address the running back room this offseason. Najee Harris is set to resume his role as the lead back, and Jaylen Warren showed that he should rightfully be featured in this unit as well. With Arthur Smith set to continue this team’s run-first nature, having a capable third back would be a wise investment.
The Bills had acquired Nyheim Hines via a trade in 2022, but an accident this past preseason left him on injured reserve this past year. During that time, James Cook took over as a star back, and he does everything that Hines does but on a rookie salary. Buffalo can save 4.7 million in cap space with his release.
Hines is a classic change of pace back. He has never been a conventional top back in a system, but he can do a lot with only a few carries. More importantly, he is a great receiver out of the backfield, and when he gets the ball in space, he is deadly. That kind of player is a perfect third back for this team right now.
Add in his value as a return man both on kicks and punts and you have a valuable player that could be added on the cheap. The running back market has been depressed in recent years, and Hines missing this past year will likely tank his value. Adding him on the cheap could be a huge addition to this team in the offseason.
