8 potential cap-casualties that should have the Steelers salivating

Steelers could sign Kevin Byard
Kevin Byard is a unique circumstance for this list. The previous names have all been underwhelming players who aren’t worth the contract. Byard isn’t that, as he started almost every game last offseason and he graded out as his usual good self. Despite his age, Byard hasn’t shown a lot of regression yet.
Cutting him saves the Eagles 13.3 million in cap space though, and for a team that needs to revamp some things, that money can go a long way. The safety market has become an inflated one, so having that much money tied into an aging veteran doesn’t make sense.
The Steelers went the opposite route at safety last season, using a slew of different cheap options to try and find a running mate for Minkah Fitzpatrick. Byard would be a great addition to this defense for a variety of reasons. While he doesn't fit the mold of a traditional box safety, he can serve as a more versatile strong safety in this defense.
It isn’t like Byard is coming off a down year. He was a strong defender last year, especially as a run defender. The Steelers showed last offseason that they are ok with some older defenders, and Byard could be the next target. If he is released, he is a logical target to provide some better safety play for this defense.
