Last year, the Steelers were able to muster up 9 wins despite a dismal 2-6 start to the season. We know in the NFL that things can change from year to year. The Steelers could be a better team in 2023 and yet not have the same number of wins.
However, Pittsburgh's roster is much better on paper than it was this time last year. In addition to filling holes in free agency, Omar Khan and the front office were able to load up on talent in the 2023 NFL draft -- Landing players like Broderick Jones, Joey Porter Jr., Keeanu Benton, Darnell Washington, and Cory Trice Jr.
These additions -- combined with the fact that players like Kenny Pickett, George Pickens, Pat Freiermuth, and Najee Harris be improved -- mean that the Steelers are likely to be a better team this year.
When it comes to wins, however, what really matters is the schedule at hand. Fortunately, things look manageable for Mike Tomlin and company in 2023. While the Steelers have difficult games against the 49ers, Jaguars, and Seahawks, they also have a number of easier contests on the schedule against teams like the Raiders, Texans, and Cardinals.
What will really be a determining factor is how they do in their own division. If the Steelers can go at least three and three in the AFC North, they will stand an excellent chance of earning more than eight wins this year. following the NFL schedule release, I predicted the Pittsburgh Steelers would win nine games this year.
