Jersey #49 Dwayne Woodruff

Dwayne Woodruff is a largely unheralded defensive back who started with the Steelers in 1979 and then played on some bad teams through 1990. Nevertheless, he played his full career with the Steelers and is perhaps another of those underrated players.

He finished his career with 37 interceptions and three for touchdowns plus 4 fumble recoveries two for a touchdown. He even had three sacks. He was an excellent defensive back, no doubt about that. He just dosent get the credit he deserves for playing on some bad Steelers teams in the ‘80s.

Jersey #51 Loren Toews

Probably the most notable player to don #51 is without a doubt Loren Toews who played from 1973-1983. Because he played alongside Jack Ham and Jack Lambert, he was one of those marginalized players who ended up playing above their level as they were surrounded by so much talent. Still, he is the last player to wear this jersey for more than three seasons.

Jersey #53 Maurkice Pouncey

Another number you might think would find it’s way to the uncirculated category. This was and Maurkice Pouncy’s number which he wore from 2010-2020. He was only the third center the Steelers have had since 1974. Like Webster and Dawson played in 154 games, only missing the 2013 season when he tore his ACL and MCL. It will be a long time before anyone else lays claim to the jersey.

Jersey #54 Readers Choice

Another one of those jerseys that lack a credible player to claim it. The closet might be Hardy Nickerson from 1987-1992, but even then he was not a great Steelers player and never did enough to distinguish himself. So it’s up to the reader to decide upon the best for this jersey.
