Jersey #76 John Banaszak

John Banaszak will be best remembered for this jersey. He was an undrafted free agent who caught Chuk Noll's eye in 1975. With the talent on the Steelers team, he faced long odds of making the roster. He did and became a pivotal player on a defense loaded with talent. Although he began as a backup, he can be given credit for ushering in the era of sack dances in the NFL. He was also known by his nickname Banasack.

One other famous player wore #76. In 1961 “Big Daddy” Gene Lipscomb was traded to the Steelers. Lipscomb was a big star for the Rams and Colts earlier in his career. While he was at the end of his career, he was still a huge star playing 28 games for the Steelers.

Jersey #77 Steve Courson

Through 2022 season, undoubtedly, Steve Courson was the most famous player to wear #77. He was another of those replacements Chuck Noll brought in 1978 to help shore up an aging offensive line. He helped lead the Steelers to two more Superbowl wins in 1978 and 1979.

While Courson is the most famous player to date to wear #77, there is a good chance that, in time, rookie Broderick Jones who begins his first season with the Steelers could end up replacing Steve Courson on this list. We will have to wait and see.
