After failing to score a touchdown in their first two preseason games of 2024, it didn't take long for the Pittsburgh Steelers to punch in a score during their exhibition finale against the Detroit Lions. Putting seven points on the board was a sight for sore eyes.

On the game's opening drive, the Steelers found themselves in a 3rd and 11 situation before quarterback Russell Wilson connected with George Pickens for a 26-yard gain along the left sideline. That's when Cordarrelle Patterson decided to leave his stamp on the preseason.

Immediately after getting stuffed on a sweep, Patterson busted off a 31-yard touchdown scamper.

This was exactly what Steelers fans wanted to see -- especially considering running back Jaylen Warren injured his hamstring last week in Pittsburgh's second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

Steelers have a great option at RB3

At 33 years old, any questions about how much Patterson has left in the tank should be put to rest after his impressive touchdown run against the Detroit Lions. This will help the Steelers to feel confident about their decision to sign Patterson during the 2024 offseason.

Patterson, a former wide receiver-turned-running back, missed most of the training camp and the preseason as he nursed his way back from a non-football related hamstring injury that hampered him before camp began.

As if there ever was, there's certainly no question as to who will be the third running back in Pittsburgh this year. In addition to what Patterson still offers from the backfield, the Steelers are getting one of the greatest kick returners in NFL history.

At some point, age is going to catch up to Patterson, but it certainly doesn't look like Father Time is on his heels right now. The Pittsburgh Steelers made an outstanding move signing the veteran during the 2024 offseason.
