Expert has Steelers going with hype train QB in latest 2025 NFL mock draft
Mock drafts this time of year always see a bunch of fluctuations when it comes to where certain prospects go. Many star players in college football this season have this entire year to decide to leave for the draft or remain in college if they are able. Each week presents a new opportunity not only for players to get on the radar of NFL teams, but to rise draft boards.
There were plenty of quality performances across the college football world in Week 1, and many of those were quarterbacks. We will see how the Russell Wilson and Justin Fields experiment plays out for the Steelers this season. Even if one of those two pan out as the current and future starting quarterback in Pittsburgh, they will still be in the market for a player or two at the position.
Each quarterback on the Steelers roster is scheduled to become a free agent after this season concludes. The hope is either Wilson or Fields will become the guy and get extended after the season. Even if that is the case, Pittsburgh will need two replacements at the backup spots. Adding in the draft makes sense no matter the outcome of the current situation.
Even the Steelers can't escape the QB hype train in latest mock draft
In their latest installment of 2025 mock drafts, the "33rd team" has the Steelers taking Cam Ward out of Miami. He might have played the best out of every college football game this past weekend. He certainly shot up draft boards, and the fourth-year player could get himself into the top quarterback conversation if he stays on this path.
In their latest mock draft, Ward gets selected by the Steelers with the 19th overall selection in the first round. When you look at Ward's body of work, he has a ton of experience and has produced at each college he has played at. He worked his way from Incarnate Word to Washington State and now Miami. He has seen different levels of competition and produced over 14,000 passing yards.
Perhaps no other quarterback in this class could have a jump up draft boards higher than Ward. He has the experience and playmaking ability that is matched with a good team. If he can keep on this current trajectory, he could be in the conversation to become the Steeler's future quarterback. This mock draft could hit the nail on the head before Week 1 of the NFL starts.
Quarterback could become a position that is sought after feverishly by Pittsburgh if Wilson nor Fields work out. Ward could be a nice option, but there are other guys out there who could be answers either as starters or become developmental guys in this upcoming draft. A few quarterbacks who also deserve some roses for their first week performances are Drew Allar, Jaxson Dart, and Noah Fifita.
