Finding a replacement for Troy Fautanu in free agency is going to be a tough task for the Steelers.

It was a tough start to Troy Fautanu's career. He missed significant time due to an MCL sprain which leaked into the regular season. After returning and starting in Week 2 against the Broncos, he suffered another injury. This time he wasn't able to escape disaster. Unfortunately for both the Steelers and their top pick of this past draft, he will miss the remainder of the regular season.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Fautanu could have a shot to get back in time for the playoffs if Pittsburgh were able to qualify. That could be big news down the line, but all of a sudden, the black and gold are thin at offensive tackle.

Pittsburgh has two serviceable starters, but those behind them are inexperienced. If Broderick Jones or Dan Moore Jr. gets hurt, then this team is in trouble.

Steelers Troy Fautanu replacement could be available in free agency

David Bakhtiari

Somewhat of a surprise that David Bakhtiari is still out there in free agency. He was one of the best offensive tackles during his time in Green Bay. His career has been derailed due to injuries. He is a smart veteran player who could be a nice addition to Pittsburgh. Bakhtiari has mostly played on the left side, which could hinder the Steeler's interest as they need a swing tackle on the depth chart.

D.J. Humphries

Overall, D.J. Humphries hasn't been the best first-round pick in NFL history. He has been stable during his play, and he has played both sides at offensive tackle during his NFL career. Humphries was a cap casualty by the Arizona Cardinals this past offseason. Mike Tomlin might like his first-round pedigree and the number of starts that he has both at right and left tackle. Could be a name to watch for the Steelers.

Duane Brown

Pittsburgh could always place a call to an old veteran like Duane Brown. He is 39 years old and coming off a season-ending hip injury last year. As long as his health checks out, the Steelers should consider signing him in free agency. Brown has only played left tackle during his long NFL career, but he is a well-experienced veteran who could help a young group on the offensive line.

Donovan Smith

He may not be the first choice to replace Fautanu in free agency for the Steelers, but you have to put Donovan Smith's name here. He has a ton of starting experience but has only played on the left side. His wealth of starting experience is something Pittsburgh will like, and should be looking for. Smith is coming off a Super Bowl victory last season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Charles Leno Jr.

Who knows if he could even play yet, but Charles Leno Jr. would be a nice option on paper for Pittsburgh. He got cut by the Commanders in March and had hip surgery quickly after his release. His willingness to continue his NFL career is also up in the air. If the Steelers were happy with where his health was at then Leno could be a great choice still out there in free agency.
