Bad: Kenny Pickett's Accuracy Is Still Not Acceptable
Where the heck is the Kenny Pickett we saw in August?
Matt Canada's playcalling almost made the bad here, and it certainly plays a role in Pickett's play, but Kenny does have to execute properly. Make no mistake, I'm not defending Canada here, but there are routine reads and throws that he is not hitting.
For instance, we actually saw slant routes in the Steelers' route trees early. But Pickett didn't spot Grant Delpit in a robber zone and threw a preventable pick. Later in the game, after hitting Pickens on a slant for a long touchdown, Pickett skips a wide-open pass in the turf in front of Pickens.
Toss in more passes behind receivers, ill-advised decisions such as nearly throwing a second interception on the first play of the third quarter, and poorly managing crumbling pockets and you've got a bad performance from Kenny Pickett.
Overall, hovering at 50% completion percentage is unacceptable in today's climate. It's a mixture of many factors contributing to his poor performance, but he has to play better within the structure of the play design and execute efficiently when his receivers are open.
