Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania has hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp for several years. The institution has become part of a lasting tradition for a franchise working to establish dominance in the AFC North. A plethora of highlights and stories were unveiled during the 2024 camp, but none compare to the quarterback battle between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.

The 2024 off-season helped Mike Tomlin’s unit right the wrongs of the previous campaign. First, the Steelers signed the former Denver Bronco to a one-year $1.21 million deal. Investing in an established gunslinger was a perfect move. The negotiation gave Arthur Smith a veteran quarterback with enough experience to lead his revamped offense.

In 2023, Wilson completed 26 touchdown passes (9th) and earned 3,070 yards through the air.  The price for the 35-year-old gunslinger was perfect for a franchise with more innovations to make in a limited amount of time.

Depth in the quarterback room is essential for success in the NFL. It helps younger players develop and is a safety blanket for franchises dealing with injuries. Investing in a youthful backup was a perfect maneuver for  Omar Khan. His determination led to the acquisition of Justin Fields - completing the quarterback remodel. A sixth-round pick was the asking price of one of the NFL's most dynamic gunslingers.

An inconsistent offense held the Pittsburgh Steelers back from numerous opportunities last season. It was difficult to watch and cost the starting quarterback and offensive coordinator their jobs at the end of the season. Matt Canada and Kenny Pickett are no longer hindering the Steelers’ success. Now, who will lead Arthur Smith’s unit: Fields or Wilson?

Excitement from training camp continues to elevate the anticipation for the regular season. The Steelers are making significant strides and appear to be a contender in the 2024 playoff run. Highlights of George Pickens snagging passes from his newest quarterbacks give fans reassure fans that offensive woes are a thing of the past.

The battle between Pittsburgh's newest quarterback acquisitions is a healthy way to keep the team focused for the upcoming season. Fields is making the most of a new opportunity. The former Ohio State Buckeye has completed 29 touchdowns heading into Friday’s practice - agent leap for the 4th year gunslinger. He’s taken most of the first-team reps and has developed a report with his teammates.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are focused on the upcoming season. They have enough resources and fan support to overcome hurdles that weighed the team down in previous seasons.

We must wait until the end of training camp to see who emerges as the Pittsburgh Steelers starting QB. Russell Wilson is a capable veteran, but Justin Fields is becoming the likely favorite.
