Put it a fork in the Steelers' quarterback controversy. It's done. If you had reservations about Justin Fields remaining Pittsburgh's starting quarterback when Russell Wilson returns to full health, you shouldn't anymore.

Fields didn't get a cakewalk in Week 3 against the LA Chargers. Jim Harbaugh's defense showed up to play, and Fields was under constant duress. This resulted in Pittsburgh's offense getting off to a slow start.

But Fields wouldn't be held down for long.

After an explosive play to tight end Pat Freiermuth was wiped away due to an illegal formation penalty, Fields answered back with the play of the day -- a 55-yard touchdown throw to wide receiver Calvin Austin III.

This play gave the Steelers a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter to put the contest on ice. Throughout the game, Fields showed a willingness to hang tough in the pocket and deliver the football over the middle of the field.

His pass to Austin was all the evidence we needed to see who should be Pittsburgh's quarterback for the rest of the season.

Steelers have a potential franchise QB in Justin Fields

There is no incentive for the Pittsburgh Steelers to go back to an aging Russell Wilson coming off a lingering calf injury, and with Fields putting on a show, there will be no looking back.

Not only has Fields been good enough to keep his job, but he also inspired hope as a potential franchise quarterback of the future for Pittsburgh. While the Steelers haven't put up big point totals in their first three games, they've had long drives, won the time of possession battle, and have shown the ability to put the game on ice.

If the Steelers offense keeps playing like this with Fields under center, the points are going to come. Justin Fields has played selfless football, and Pittsburgh is reaping the benefits. The quarterback controversy is over.
