It wasn't exactly the start to Week 3 that Pittsburgh Steelers fans were hoping for. After hearing all week long that their offense doesn't amount to snuff, Pittsburgh opened the game with a three-and-out on their first offensive possession of the game.
After each team punted the ball once, the Raiders marched down the field and capped off their drive with a Jimmy Garoppolo touchdown pass to Davante Adams. When the Steelers got the ball back, it looked like their offense was going to stall for the second straight time. However, Kenny Pickett wasn't about to have any of that.
Pickett launched a rocket down the field on a big third down play to speedster WR Calvin Austin III. This was exactly the big-time play Steelers fans needed to see from their young quarterback.
This outstanding throw from Pickett to Austin knotted the score at 7-7 in the first quarter. Pickett and the Steelers offense have received a ton of criticism for their performance over the past two weeks.
Unfortunately, when Pickett got the ball back on offense after the touchdown, he nearly gift-wrapped a pick-six to cornerback, Marcus Peters. There's no doubt that Pickett needs to be much more consistent and he needs to make better decisions with the football.
However, the 72-yard touchdown pass we saw from him in the first quarter against the Raiders on Sunday Night Football was a much-needed moment to help his confidence. Now it's time to build on this momentum. Let's hope we see much more of this to come.
