The Pittsburgh Steelers have kicked off another year of training camp at Saint Vincent College. Fans should be excited as this signals the start of the football season. As we eagerly anticipate how the position battles will unfold, Coach Tomlin's announcement of injuries coming out of the beginning of training caes.

Two players who had suffered injuries before training camp found their way to the physically unable to perform list, otherwise known as the PUP list, and one on the non-football injury list. None of the injuries seem severe enough to cause any significant playing time for either of the players, but all injuries need to be treated with care.

Players listed on the PUP list

Cole Holcomb LB, (Knee)

The Steelers added Holcomb to the injury list due to a knee injury. The injury occurred on November 2nd, 2023, during the game against the Titans. Reports at that time suggest he tore his ACL in that game. However, some articles online since then have suggested that it may have been more than an ACL tear, as the Steelers were vague at the time of his injury and during spring OTAs when asked about his expected readiness for the season opener.

Holcomb might miss some time in any case, as his injury was the most serious among the three players as most knee injuries are. Without a definitive update from the Steelers regarding his potential return, fans will have to wait and see if Holcomb can recover from the injury in time for the action in week one.

Dean Lowry, DL (Pectoral)

The Steelers also placed Lowry on the pup list due to a pectoral injury. Although Mike Tomlin only hinted that his injury was related to his pectoral muscle, specifics remain vague, similar to Holcomb's situation. The impact of this on Lowry's season at this point is uncertain. It's unclear whether he will return in time for preseason games or if this will be a lingering injury. Only time will tell.

Non-Football Injury designation

Cordaarrelle Patterson, RB (hamstring)

This injury is probably the least problematic if we believe what Tomlin said. Patterson injured his hamstring during a workout before the start of training camp. While some hamstring injuries can be severe and take a long time to heal, Tomlin indicated that Patterson's injury is day-to-day, meaning you should expect a full recovery before the start of the season. Therefore, based on the information we have at this point, it should not directly affect his season.

Now that training camp is underway, injuries will accumulate as they always do. Fans can only hope those currently injured recover quickly as training camp progresses. Going forward, we can only hope that any new injuries are minor and have a limited impact on the team.
