Steelers way-too-early 2025 NFL Mock Draft before training camp starts
Even though college football is still over a month away from playing games, you better believe NFL teams are already starting to evaluate talent for the 2025 NFL Draft. There is still a lot of football left to be played between now and the draft, so plenty of players in this mock scenario will see their draft stock fluctuate during the process.
The Steelers could see a lot of turnover on their roster come next offseason, so their needs in the draft could be vast.
Steelers mock draft round 1: Deone Walker, DT, Kentucky
One area the Steelers ignored early on in the past draft was in the defensive trenches. Omar Khan and company are committed to the trenches, and one would have to imagine they will take a defensive lineman early in the 2025 NFL Draft with both Cam Heyward's and Larry Ogunjobi's futures in the air. Getting Deone Walker here is a terrific pick, but he needs to continue his growth in 2024.
He had a breakout campaign last season, so if he can expand on that this time around, then he could be on his way to a top pick in round one. A terrific option to come in and start on day one for the Steelers.
NFL Mock Draft 2025: Which players should the Steelers be looking at right now?
Steelers mock draft round 2: Barion Brown, WR, Kentucky
With the conundrum still facing the Steelers at reiver, one would have to imagine they will take another one early in 2025.
The Steelers took Barion Brown in the second round of this mock draft as they fell in love with his speed and versatility. This guy has blazing speed and can catch the ball, run with the ball, and provide snaps as a quality returner. He does have a light frame so that could be a concern moving forward. If he continues to break records at Kentucky, then he would be a tremendous pick.
Steelers mock draft round 3: Davison Igbinosun, CB, Ohio State
A big year is upcoming for Davison Igbinosun if he wants to make the jump to the NFL.
He started his career at Ole Miss before transferring to Ohio State for the 2023 season. He started for the Buckeyes and had a quality year. He needs to build off that success and produce an elite campaign for the team. If Igbinosun can accomplish that then his physical traits will only raise his draft stock that much more.
Steelers mock draft round 4: Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
Will either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields be the long-term answer for the Steelers?
Either way, Pittsburgh needs to take a quarterback or two in the upcoming draft. They go with Quinn Ewers here who has all the talent in the world, but just hasn't developed into the type of quarterback many thought he would be heading into college. Ewers and Texas are going into this season with championship dreams, so that could launch his draft stock to new heights if they win.
Steelers mock draft round 5: Roman Hemby, RB, Maryland
Great pick here as the Steelers will likely have to find a replacement for Najee Harris after this season.
Roman Hemby needs to bounce back after a poor 2023 season which saw his production fall off from his breakout year before that. Hemby could see his draft stock rise if he can return to his 2022 self. He can do everything, run downhill, block, catch passes, and return kicks. He would be a terrific partner with Jaylen Warren.
Steelers mock draft round 5: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
Tyler Warren is a former high school quarterback who moved to tight end, and things are working out perfectly.
He has climbed the ladder at Penn State to become one of the best tight ends the program has ever seen. Add in his athletic ability, and he has become a weapon on offense for them. He has run wildcat formations that have resulted in plenty of touchdowns. The Steelers would be getting an athletic tight end who would push Connor Heyward for his job.
Steelers mock draft round 7: Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
Many are high on Jaxson Dart heading into the college season, but he could have some red flags.
He has produced quality numbers since transferring to Ole Miss, but he might not be able to transition over to the NFL as easily. The Steelers took him here to develop as their third quarterback in hopes he could become a reliable backup someday. Some might scoff at Dart being here at this point in the mock draft, but he screams Matt Corral.
