The Steelers are finally in training camp, marking the beginning of a new season. We have much to look forward to, such as seeing how the rookies perform in pre-season games and who prevails in positional battles. However, it only took about thirty seconds for all that optimism to disappear and for that proverbial dark cloud to position itself over Steelers training camp.

People often say that negative thinking leads to negative energy and bad things happening. So, if things go from bad to worse, this article unfortunately gets the blame. However, on the first day of training camp, when your starting quarterback says, 'Oh hey coach, I woke up with calf pain this morning,' something feels unsettling about that.

Then, after the coaches evaluated Russell Wilson, they said no, take a seat; we will let Justin Fields practice today. To the average fan, that's the equivalent of hearing, "Houston, we have a problem." Probably, it's nothing to be concerned about. However, where is that creepy sensation coming from that this season has already turned disastrous before the Steelers take to the field?

Should Steelers fans be concerned about Russell Wilson?

The typical fan shouldn't worry, as Russell Wilson won't miss any playing time. While he could have practiced, the coaches decided to have him sit out as a precaution. Nobody wants to risk an injury, especially during training camp or the pre-season. However, in this case, it's not like he injured his calf while running wind sprints.

There does come a point in life when, in your mid-50s, you might have aches or pains when you wake up in the morning. Former Pittsburgh Penguins star Jaromir Jager, 52, who just announced his forthcoming retirement from hockey, might attest to that. Wilson, though, is only 35. It is old regarding professional football, but not specifically for waking up and finding that pain in your calf is a bit more than a charlie horse. It does create a certain suspicion.

That shouldn't happen, but yet here we are. So, whereas some of the concerns here in this article are tongue in cheek, the fact that this occurs immediately as training camp opens, and there is no real single cause for it, is a bit of a head-scratcher.  It leaves that uneasy pit in your stomach that all of the hype around Wilson's durability over his entire career may be coming full circle.

So, as of right now, we should not be concerned,  but the thought will now be in the back of our minds, and perhaps Justin Fields may get his chance sooner rather than later. Yet some of that uneasiness could just be that thunderous clap of laughter emanating from Denver by all of those Bronco's fans in a hilarious uproar saying see, we told you so.
